چکیده

The primary role of admission control in Quality of Service enabled networks is to control the amount of traffic injected into the network so that congestion is avoided. We consider IP Differentiated services networks able to support realtime traffic and we present a Measurement-based Admission Control (MBAC) scheme that uses only measurements of aggregate bandwidth without keeping track of any per-flow information. Through simulations we show that the admission control scheme is relatively robust to traffic heterogeneity and measurement errors and that it compares favorably against other MBAC proposals found in the literature.

Resource management in IP-based Radio Access Networks

IP is being considered to be used in the Radio Access Network (RAN) of UMTS. It is of paramount importance to be able to provide good QoS guarantees to real time services in such an IP-based RAN. QoS in IP networks is most efficiently provided with Differentiated services (Diffserv). However, currently Diffserv mainly specifies Per Hop Behaviors (PHB). Proper mechanisms for admission control an...

An integrated bandwidth allocation and admission control framework for the support of heterogeneous real-time traffic in class-based IP networks

The support of real-time traffic in class-based IP networks requires the reservation of resources in all the links along the end-to-end paths through appropriate queuing and forwarding mechanisms. This resource allocation should be accompanied by appropriate admission control procedures in order to guarantee that newly admitted real-time traffic flows do not cause any violation to the Quality o...

Admission Control for Inter-domain Real-Time Traffic Originating from Differentiated Services Stub Domains

Differentiated Services (DiffServ) are seen as the technology to support Quality of Service (QoS) in IP networks in a scalable manner by allowing traffic aggregation within the engineered traffic classes. In DiffServ domains, admission control additionally needs to be employed in order to control the amount of traffic into the engineered traffic classes so as to prevent overloads that can lead ...

Quality of Service Support in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks Connected to Fixed DiffServ Domains

This paper analyzes the provision of end-to-end Quality of Service between nodes in a mobile ad hoc network and a fixed IP network that supports Differentiated Services. The ad hoc network incorporates the Stateless Wireless Ad Hoc Networks (SWAN) model to perform admission control for real-time traffic flows. We propose a new protocol, named DS-SWAN (Differentiated Services-SWAN), where end-to...
